Keep Building Materials Separate to Save Money
The Summerland Sanitary Landfill has many options for diversion of Demolition, Construction, and Renovation materials. In order to encourage proper separation, these items are accepted at a much lower cost then mixed Demolition, Construction and/or Renovation waste. These include:
- Asphalt, Concrete and Masonry
- Asphalt Shingles
- Clean Soil
- Metal
- Lighting Products and Light Bulbs (limited volume)
- Smoke and CO Alarms
- Wood Waste (keep clean wood without paint or other contamination separate)

Potential Asbestos Containing Materials Requirements
Potential Asbestos Containing Materials (PACM) are those materials that may contain asbestos which are commonly found in commercial and residential buildings:
- Gypsum wall board (drywall), wall tape, and drywall mud compound
- Plaster and plaster board
- Vinyl flooring and leveling compound
- Ceiling tiles
- Cement pipe
- Stucco and cement siding
- Spray applied insulation and attic insulation.
All loads containing PACM entering the Summerland Landfill must complete the Declaration form linked below. This includes loads containing:
- New Construction Materials
- Post 1990 Construction Materials with drywall visible date stamp (see photo)
- Pre 1990 Demolition with a third party WorksafeBC clearance documentPlease note that materials from structures pre 1990 will be considered as asbestos containing without a third party WorkSafeBC approved clearance letter. Check with the asbestos information below on how residential home owners can prepare materials that may contain asbestos to bring to the Summerland Landfill.

Asbestos Containing Materials
The Summerland Sanitary Landfill is regulated to accept properly packaged and hauled asbestos.

Please note, loads received as Non-Manifested Residentially Hauled ACM will be required to complete the form below. This includes at risk materials from structures built before 1990 that potentially contain asbestos.
