Household Hazardous Waste

The District of Summerland has partnered with recycling stewardship groups to provide a free depot at the Summerland Sanitary Landfill for specific residential hazardous items. Click on material type for more information. 

 - Residential Paint
 - Domestic Pesticides
 - Domestic Flammable Products (residential products often with open flame symbol)
 - Gasoline (must be in ULC-approved gas can or jerry can which will be kept with gas onsite)
 - Used Oil, Oil Filters, Oil Containers
 - Antifreeze and Antifreeze Containers
 - Lightbulbs (some contain mercury)
 - Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms (contain small amounts of radioactive material)
 - Thermostat Switches (older ones often contain mercury)
 - Batteries (contain hazardous materials)

Please note that the Household Hazardous Waste Depot does not accept any waste from commercial, industrial, and institutional businesses or materials in commercial sized containers such as industrial sized paint cans or large metal drums.
