Earth week runs from April 22nd-April 27th this year. The theme for this years Earth Week events is YOU Can Make a Difference! We are highlighting ways that residents and citizens can make small or big changes to their lifestyle choices through food, finance, your home and many others to support environmental sustainability.

Saturday April 19th
District of Summerland Recycle Depot at the Summerland Arena (8820 Jubilee Rd E). 8am - 3PM, see webpage for more details on what can be brought to the Arena Recycling Depot
Tuesday April 22 (Earth day)
Join us for a virtual community workshop with Earth Day Canada. We will be providing space to attend in person to watch the workshop, as well as providing registration to tune-in from the comfort of your home or personal space. The workshop will be held from 4PM-5:30PM, location (TBD), link for registration virtually will be shared 2 weeks out.
Workshop Description: Saving money and the environment: it starts at home!
Making your home eco-friendly is also economical! There's a lot we can do, whether we're tenants or homeowners. Discover best practices and reduce your bills without losing comfort. Whether it's energy consumption, your material footprint or water consumption, this participatory workshop will provide you with concrete, easy-to-follow tips and economical solutions. Let's put the spotlight on our best tips for combining ecologically and economically friendly practices at home, at our own pace.

Workshop Description: I’m eating sustainably
From the farm to our tables, the way we eat has a major impact on our health and the planet. People are often unaware of the consequences of the way they eat or don’t know where to start to make an effort. But don’t worry! This workshop provides an introduction to sustainable eating and offers concrete solutions to help everyone make more informed choices. After all, eating means voting with your dollars! Doing your part for the planet can start with becoming well informed and equipped with the right tools so you can make good food choices and fight food waste.
Friday April 25
Join the Summerland Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library to celebrate Earth Day with a magical Forest Fairy craft. Create your own eco-friendly fairy using natural and recycled materials. Let your creativity take flight as we share stories and craft together. All supplies provided.
Running from 3PM-4PM, registration is required.
Saturday April 26th
The District of Summerland in partnership with First Things First Okanagan, The City of Penticton, Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen, and Green Drinks Penticton are hosting an informative workshop on heat pump installation, common barriers, and real-life experiences from homeowners who made the switch.
Join us from 9:30am-12 noon at the Penticton Public Library (785 Main Street, Penticton). Coffee and cookies provided.
Sunday April 27th
The Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society (OASISS) and the Summerland Environmental Science Group (SESG) are coordinating, with support from the District of Summerland, the 19th Annual Planting Event. The event will be located at Memorial Park in Summerland (9999 Wharton St) where we will plant native species of trees, shrubs and grasses along the hillside behind the playground.
Gloves and watering cans are provided!
In tandem with the planting event we will also be hosting our Earth Week Fair, with lots of local vendors, including local farmers, businesses, and organizations.
Join us from 10am-1pm (or until the plants are all planted!)
